Pier Giorgio Frassati

Pier Giorgio Frassati (6 April 1901 – 4 July 1925) was an Italian Catholic activist and a lay Dominican.  He was dedicated to Catholic social justice issues and joined several charitable organizations, including Catholic Action and the St Vincent de Paul to better aid the poor and less fortunate living in his hometown of Turin. His cause for canonization opened in 1932 after the Turin poor made several pleas for such a cause to open.  Pope John Paul II beatified Frassati on 20 May 1990 and dubbed him the “Man of the Eight Beatitudes”. He is set to be canonized 3 August 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.  We hope to have a celebration in Auckland and possibly shared online late in August. Image:  In public domain – by Luciana Frassati
